Introduction
The main goal of the programme is to introduce the students Applications developed within the language industry such as language analysis, and computerised natural language processing techniques and applications. Namely, Applications developed within the language industry include:
-Text-editing and Management (grammar and spell checkers, dictionary aids)
-Information Retrieval and Extraction for large volumes of text
-Machine Translation
-Natural Language Interfaces
-Speech Processing
We are surrounded by many of those applications such as:

The Basque Government has listed Linguistic Info engineering among its strategic research trends. New researchers (computer scientists and linguists) who will do research and development in this area are required.
We have been running master-level programmes on NLP since the 2001-2002 academic year.

Interdisciplinarity:
- This doctoral programme is the result of the joint effort of six departments and knowledge-fields: Computer Languages and Systems, Basque Philology, Electronics and Telecommunication, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Computer Architecture and Technology and hizkuntzaren eta Literaturaren Didaktika.
